The Theaters of opinions

Lately, many movies have come and gone throughout the movie theaters. Some are Jurassic World Rebirth, Bad Guys 2, and Avatar 3: Fire and Ash. However, some movie theaters forget to mention the kids' opinions! Students are wondering how they feel about the movies that the big industries have been creating. That's why we asked the SOAR students on the AVC campus,” How do you feel about the recent movies that industries like Dreamworks, Disney, and many others have been creating?” Where the responses vary.

Demian Calvimontes Guzman said that movies of late have been disappointing, lazy, and made for a quick buck. Although sometimes there are good movies, they are usually rare to come by.

Sophomore Jacqueline Salcedo Barraza mentions that the movies are repetitive and do not have much new content. However, there are a few gems in them, like Dogman and others similar to it.

Meanwhile, another response from freshman Isaac Afre Gutierrez mentions that he loves older movies like Star Wars but believes that the Disney animations haven't been as original as they used to be. Further explaining this, they mention how Disney knew how people would watch the original classic back then, even recreating newer versions. With that being said, instead of being motivated to create new ideas, they are being influenced by the idea of making quick money by recreating old classics.

As Isaac mentions, this cycling of older movies doesn’t always work out, as evidenced by the recent box office returns for live-action versions of the 1937 classic Snow White.

This latest Disney picture stars Rachel Zegler in the title role and Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot as the wicked witch.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the movie opened in the U.S. and Canada to $43 million in ticket sales. When combined with overseas titles, the movie took in a total global debut of $87 million, which is below the forecasted $45 executives had calculated.

By comparison, the recent live-action Disney adaptations, the 2019 The Lion King and 2017 Beauty and the Beast, made $191 million and $174 million, respectively, on their opening weekends.

Seniors Diana Ruvalcaba and Kelsey Cole say they have no plans to watch this latest movie because they changed the movie too much from the original, and a lot of it is CGI.

Fellow senior Emily Ilene Martinez has low expectations for the movie, but she is still going to watch it because she loves Disney.

“Disney is nostalgic, and they’re happy in nature, so it makes me happy,” she said.
