Thanksgiving break is right around the corner for SOAR students, and it is a well-deserved one. Being the longest break of the school year yet, students are eager for a chance to relax and recharge. However, before they are able to enjoy such luxury, many of them must first complete their exams.
This break does not generate a full week off of school for all students. Some professors might still hold classes for college classes, so students need to be on the lookout for updates stating otherwise. Officially, the high school district’s break is supposed to be from the 24th of November until the 28th of November; however, Antelope Valley College only has the 27th of November and the 28th of November as its official days off.
When asked how she feels about the upcoming break, junior Kaiya Jones stated, “I feel great about break. School can be very stressful, especially junior year, so I’m glad I will have a week to myself!”
This break is a time for students to be able to reconnect with hobbies and projects that they have had to put on hold to be able to keep up with their hectic academic schedules. Kaiya added, “I am aiming to hopefully get more reading time in, as I do not get to as much anymore with how busy I am with school.”
Another junior, Donna Rojas, is very excited about her plans during break. She exclaimed, “I’m leaving school two days early before break to go to Arizona for my big soccer showcase tournament!”
Many students are athletes, so this break period will help them prepare for future games and give them time to work on their skills, as they do not have as much academic pressure on them.
Whether they are resting, traveling, catching up on hobbies, or enjoying their time with their families, SOAR students are ready to make the most of their Thanksgiving break and return refreshed and full of energy. We look forward to hearing all of the fun experiences that our students have over break!
