Excitement was in the air as SOAR High School hosted its annual Summer Mixer — an upbeat celebration that marked the end of summer school and the beginning of a brand-new academic year. As students enjoyed games, music, and pizza under the high desert sun, one of the most anticipated moments of the afternoon was the announcement of the newly elected Freshman Class Officers.
Students and staff gathered around as ASB leaders took the mic to reveal the results. The crowd erupted with cheers and applause as the names were called, welcoming the newest leaders of the Class of 2029.
Freshman Class President: Benson Limon
Vice President: Kyrah Gordan
Secretary: Alondra Rivera Ordonez
Treasurer: Jazlyn Vazquez
Parliamentarian: Aniyah Abraham
These student leaders were selected by their peers during the final week of summer school and are already working with the ASB team to plan freshman activities and ensure their class has a strong voice throughout the year.
In his campaign video, Benson said his candidacy is all "about giving the people what they want."
According to Benson, hosting fundraisers should be a community decision, so he envisions using forms to get a diverse range of opinions and buy-in.
"Everybody's happy," he said, adding he wants to ensure everyone feels included.
Joining the newly minted officers will be the freshman senate officers. These enthusiastic students were selected by the ASB Board of Control to represent the voice and interests of their class throughout the school year. Their inclusion in the broader student senate marks a significant opportunity for freshmen to be actively involved in campus decisions and leadership initiatives from the very beginning of their high school journey.
The newest senators are George Milad, Belqees Jasem, Jordan Zuniga, and Agueda Garcia Preciado.
The Summer Mixer itself served as more than just a celebration. It was a welcome party for incoming students, a final hurrah for those wrapping up summer school, and a powerful reminder of the spirit of unity and enthusiasm that defines SOAR. Booths lined the quad with clubs recruiting new members, yearbooks were available at the lowest price of the year, and students cooled off with ice cream and lemonade.
ASB President Bella Ramirez Larios commended ASB and the Senate for making this event the largest Summer Mixer ever.
"It felt amazing seeing people from every class come to the event and truly enjoy it. There was joy and excitement everywhere," she said.
Like Bella, Activities Director Sabrina Jobb noted the mixer's importance in launching a school year that everyone can look forward to.
“This event sets the tone for the year,” Jobb said.“It’s about bringing students together and showing them that they belong here from day one.”
With the newly elected freshman officers ready to lead and the energy of the Summer Mixer still buzzing, the 2025-2026 school year at SOAR is off to a strong start.
