Courses for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year were chosen by the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Ms. Graves and Mrs. Galindo have gone into AVID classes to speak and inform on courses and schedules and their relevance to student’s AAs and CAL-GETC.
If you are currently a freshman, you are only allowed one elective along with the required classes during your sophomore year. Current sophomores are only allowed to have a max of two elective classes on their schedule, along with the required classes for their junior year. Current juniors are allowed many electives for their senior year. However, all students must follow basic guidelines such as having an absolute maximum of six high school classes. Students are required to have at least four high school classes on their weekly schedule, along with at least two classes on each day. For example, you must have a minimum of two high school classes on Monday/Wednesday and a minimum of two high school classes on Tuesday/Thursday.
Some of the electives that were open for all upcoming grades (sophomore and up) include STEM Research, Mock Trial, Journalism, Yearbook, and ASB (senate and officers). 11th grader, Michael Reece, has thought, “I have to look at a lot of electives for senior year.” However, almost all of those electives require an application or have already been chosen for the next school year. Despite this, it is encouraged to talk to teachers and fellow students about classes that are interesting to you, as they may be the perfect fit for you. 10th grader, Jacob Caras Herrera, has said, “I hope to continue the project that I created in STEM Research and aim to be in the class again in my junior year.”
When deciding your high school classes, it is an important reminder to think about your Ed-Plan and leave open space for college classes. It is also reinforced to think about your major when deciding classes, as some may say to tailor your classes to your desired field of study.
