Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a career in the medical field? Future Medical Students Club is passionate about fostering ambition and allowing students to find their own path and pursue it in medicine. SOAR’s FMS meets every other Thursday in S1 to spread awareness on careers and medical issues.
With the new school year rolling in, FMS has a brand new board of officers. President Delilah Vazquez, Vice President Sachin Perera, Secretary Panayiota Qarmout, Treasurer Omotola Lawal, Parliamentarian Jessica Mikhaiel, Public Relations Eduardo Medina, Activities Coordinator Lilianna Green, and Fundraising Coordinator Isabel Veloz were all elected earlier this year, showcasing their interest and passion for medical practices.
Throughout the year, FMS excitedly hosts multiple blood drives open to anyone 16 and older. It is always located in the Student Lounge at the AVC Cafeteria with a variety of appointment times. Many students were taught by FMS the importance and impact that donating blood can have, filling up those slots quickly. “It was nice to have learned about how much donating blood can save and help a life; it definitely motivated me to participate in the blood drives,” Madalyn Santos expresses. Most recently, the club also held a meeting to spread Alzheimer's awareness, while also dedicating a day for students to wear purple in recognition of World Alzheimer’s Day.
President Delilah Vazquez shared, “FMS has done a lot for me and my journey in medicine and we hope that students are able to find their passion and a special place in their heart for medicine through our club”. With this dedication and determination, FMS is sure to make an impact throughout the rest of the school year.
