Where the Arts Are Welcome: SOAR Launches a new club

For students who dream in stories, philosophy, and music rather than formulas, SOAR’s newest organization—the H.A.T.s Majors Club—is building a home, offering real resources, and opening doors to future careers. 

Referred to as the H.A.T.s Majors Club (standing for Humanities, Arts, Teaching) meets bi-weekly and provides all the resources students need to explore their humanities interests. The club advisor is Mr. Tilton, an English 9 teacher and AVID 11 teacher.

Club members are excited to have a place outside of SOAR’s STEM-focused core because not everyone is planning on going into the math and sciences field. 

Members like Jordan Zuniga envision a writing career and appreciate having a space to explore that as well as music. 

He hopes to grow as a writer, hopefully resulting in working in Washington, D.C. and can trace his love of English coming from “[his] first ever James Baldwin novel.” 

Jordan confesses that participation in music club takes up 75% of his time, and he has no complaints. Mentioning, “Music is a big part of me.” 

Along with music and writing, members hope to engage in philosophical discussions where people can exchange ideas freely and build community understanding. Some fun activities that this club will include will be icebreaker games and trivia at the beginning of every meeting. Trivia will be drawn from genres like movies, books, Broadway, fashion, and history. 

H.A.T.s Majors Club hopes to fulfill its duty of being the support beam for creative minds on campus who seek an outlet and opportunities hand-picked just for them. Check out their meetings during STAR Hour every other Thursday.
