One of the new faces that we see on our campus this year is Mr. Fields, a new teacher in the AVID and English department. A new face however, does not mean an entirely new career as Mr. Fields has worked at Quartz Hill High School for the last 13 years, making him a veteran educator with a lot of experience up his sleeve.

For many years, his wife, Mrs. Fields, who works as our school’s accountant, has encouraged him to come and join us here on our campus but he was reluctant because stepping away from his career at Quartz Hill wasn’t an easy decision. He had a deep love for the classes that he taught there which were English Honors 9, AP Language, and AP Art History, his favorite class. The final push was when his daughter Autumn got accepted into SOAR as an incoming freshman, leading him to do the same and apply for the open English teacher position.

Here, he is currently teaching all four periods of Freshmen AVID and one class of AP Language. Coming from a completely different school with a nature so completely different from SOAR, his first impression of students here is highly positive.

“I love the feeling of SOAR,” Mr. Fields states. “I like that it's so mature and collegiate. Students are attentive and their mindset is more geared towards academics and being serious, and they’re all very motivated.”

He notices that SOAR students embody the self-directed academic habits that AVID aims to install in students, making the class feel very rewarding.

Beyond his life in the classroom, he has recently taken control over as E-Sports head coach from Mrs. Fields while still continuing to co-advise Quartz Hill’s E-Sports program online.

Let us all give Mr. Fields a warm welcome to this new chapter in his life and career as he is happy and eager to be here with us!
