After a long-awaited five years, the Texan-born rapper, Travis Scott, released his fourth studio album named Utopia. After the Astroworld Festival crowd crush tragedy that resulted in ten deaths and many other minor injuries, there was a lot of talk on when or whether new music was coming anytime soon. The controversy led to Travis Scott being somewhat absent from the public eye.
On July 28, 2023, the diverse 19-track album was released. Utopia consists of futuristic trap (“Telekinesis” & “Lost Forever”), ambient ballads (“My Eyes”), and many other genres. The album features many iconic and well-known artists, including Beyoncé, 21 Savage, Drake, Bad Bunny, SZA, The Weeknd, and more.

When asking fellow SOAR students their favorite track on the album, the majority of the individuals said “Telekinesis” and “I Know?”. Julianna Stewart, a junior here at SOAR High School, said, “My favorite song would have to be “Telekinesis”. I love SZA & Futures part because they’re such different artists, and to hear them on one song together was an amazing combination. Travis and SZA are already such a good duo, I absolutely loved the trio on this song.” While Anthony Rivera, a junior, says “My favorite off the album is “I Know?” because I feel like the melody & beat is the most catchy. It reminds me of Travis on Rodeo, while still sounding new and fresh.”
Travis Scott is currently ranked as the 7th top artist on Spotify with almost 75 million monthly listeners. With this being said, out of the 185 thousand album units Travis sold the third week of August, 93 thousand of those were Utopia’s vinyl record sales, which were discounted from $50 to $5 for a limited time. Utopia is the biggest rap album of this year and has been ranked number one on the Billboard 200 for the past three weeks.
