Stayin' Alive

By Isabella Rodriguez

Summer has begun and the class of 2028 is doing it all! They participated in a CPR training class and learned many other life-saving skills. They rotated through stations that consisted of adult CPR, infant CPR, AED use, bleeding control, and splinting. With all these amazing skills they are unstoppable.

With all these different skills everyone was bound to learn something. Not only did they learn these skills, but the training consisted of tons of hands-on fun practices. Everyone has different opinions about all these other stations. Which were the favorites? Splinting and bleeding control go hand in hand and one student Elizabeth Manley has her thoughts. “ My favorite might've been learning about bandages and seeing how to help someone bleeding.” Bleeding control can be helpful and interesting but can you operate an AED? Kayla Ware states,” My favorite thing was the shock thing because it's simple, it saves lives, and I've seen it in movies.” I agree with Kayla the amount of times I've seen it in shows and didn't know what it was until this training was insane! In the TV shows the AED was always used alongside CPR. One student, Ashley Mettle adds,” My favorite was doing CPR on an infant.” Doing CPR on an adult is great but on an infant is amazing!

All these skills together are incredible and can help anyone. You never know when something can happen when everything comes unexpectedly. These skills save someone's life every day. Maybe one day these skills can be used by one of our amazing SOAR students in an actual emergency in a professional setting.
