How many things do you eat everyday that have sugar? Imagine not having any of it. I don’t know how I would live without my chocolate chip cookies. Experts say that the sugar supply will decrease more through 2023-2024. What would happen if it was all gone?
Sugar is in so many things! Cookies, candy, cakes, energy drinks, and so much more. It's a necessity in a kitchen. In my house, we buy it in bulk. It is literally used so much my family is constantly refilling the sugar jar. I bet you can think of so many other things that you use every day that include sugar.
Due to weather changes that can any day start as droughts and turn into floods India's crops have been hit hard. You might be thinking what does this have to do with India? Well India is the biggest sugar consumer and is now stopping exports of sugar. The US department of agriculture has predicted a 15% dip.
The shortage can affect many in ways you probably could never think of. People will begin to resort to natural sugars. This includes so many fruits like strawberries and watermelon. Then everyone would be buying so many fruits we won't be able to find them in stores once they are sold out. This even includes bread which can be a cheaper option. Bread makers will begin to charge more and then it won't be so cheap. Students that were interviewed shared their thoughts,”I didn’t know that was happening”. Now that you know we can only hope that the sugar is restored.
