Keeping up with the classrooms

At 8:00 AM, Monday, August 12th, students poured into the academic amazon full of favorite and unfamiliar faces known as SOAR High School. Some may be returning for their second year, third year, or maybe even their senior year.

For the 120 freshmen to arrive at this unfamiliar place it presented a chock-a -block full of opportunities and new experiences. Students were quick to notice teachers who made a promising first impression like Dr. Thibault and Mr. Newman, who helped make SOAR less intimidating.

In S-4, Dr. Thibault made sure to greet all of her students immediately with an individual greeting to all of them, making sure to get up and personal with her new students. Only being able to describe her as “bubbly and vivacious”, students quickly learn that this is who they can come to with trouble in any area of their life, or just sit down and have a real conversation with.

Freshman Jacqueline Sanchez goes as far as saying “ If I had to choose, it would definitely be AVID. Dr. Thibault is a super chill and lively teacher who is just really funny and I honestly feel the most comfortable in her class.” It’s refreshing to witness such an involved and down to earth teacher, especially those who have the opportunity to have her in the morning!

Though her teaching skills are most admirable, Dr. Thibault isn’t the only teacher who

earned positive reviews. T-500’s Mr. Newman has been flipping a scientific switch in students' minds with his lively buzz and outgoing personality, Noah Saldana recalling “ his entertaining explanations of situations and his eye-catching outfits make Physics his favorite class”.

Mr. Newman’s ability to phrase lessons in ways that students with different means of

thinking can understand is what makes him a great educator and a current student favorite.

Though all classes seem to be smooth sailing, Physics and AVID seem to be the classes

that float the boats of most freshmen.
